Research and UX optimisation of complex scheduling software

Initial situation

The mobileX software Dispatch is a highly complex software for dispatch planning. With its help, companies can carry out their entire scheduling for customer service employees as well as the management of required materials. The software was to be fundamentally revised in terms of its UX in the course of its transfer to the web.

Result

A reduced and optimised scheduling software on the web with which mobileX customers can organise their scheduling more effectively and efficiently. The tool also appears in a modern and contemporary look.

Understanding the user

We started the revision of the highly customised software with an extensive research phase, first by conducting an expert review and then very detailed interviews - about 2.5 hours long - with existing customers. In the interviews, we looked over the shoulders of dispatchers as they actually worked with the software and were able to experience how they perform real tasks and where the problems lie in real-life use. We also took a closer look at the interfaces to other tools so that we could identify potential for enhancements. On this basis, the concept and design for the new tool were created.

Usability test for the new web tool

During the development phase, we worked out two different concepts. We designed two prototypes, presented them to users and tested them. One approach contained more innovation, the other was oriented towards classical ideas. The test provided us with valuable insights. We were then able to transfer what worked best for the users of both variants into the final screens and finalise the web tool.
